She recalled how the veteran actor’s popularity triggered such excitement that a woman fainted and a stampede broke out among those present.
Mithun Chakraborty’s arrival caused a stampede
According to Farah Khan, the atmosphere changed completely when Mithun Chakraborty arrived to shoot for ‘Deewangi Deewangi’. She said the actor received an overwhelming response from the people on the set. This was before his association with the television dance reality show ‘Dance India Dance’. “A lot of actors came; 32 actors came. But when Dada came, I can’t tell you, there was a stampede… and this was before Dance India Dance. We showed in the song that one lady fainted, which actually happened before! That is why we put it in the song. Even the lightman jumped from his position to meet him, and there was so much commotion… Shah Rukh and I were like, ‘What happened!’”
Shah Rukh Khan struggled to follow Mithun Chakraborty
The song also gave Farah Khan an amusing memory involving Shah Rukh Khan and Mithun Chakraborty. While filming the dance sequence, Farah Khan asked Shah Rukh Khan to follow Mithun Chakraborty’s moves. However, Shah Rukh Khan could not match the veteran actor’s steps. Mithun Chakraborty then began correcting him in his own way. Farah Khan decided to retain the moment in the final song. “He could not follow him, so Mithun da started giving him tapli (smack on the head) and we have kept that in the shot!” she said.

What is ‘Om Shanti Om’ about?
