Nicolas Cage joined the Spider-Verse this year with his dual-themed series ‘Spider-Noir.’ While fans of the show expected an announcement of a renewal for season 2, the production studios confirmed that the show will not return for a second season.

‘Spider-Noir’ cancelled after season one

Variety reported that ‘Spider-Noir,’ which starred Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man, has been cancelled. The show aired earlier this year in two versions: colour and black and white. Cage first appeared in the role in the animated film ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,’ released in 2018. The film centred around Miles Morales getting bitten by a radioactive spider soon after the original Spider-Man’s death.The plot for ‘Spider-Noir’ revolves around the 1930s, where Ben Reilly, played by Cage, is forced to resume his vigilante identity. The series recently scored 11 Emmy nominations, impressed everyone worldwide, and earned a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, Nielsen’s streaming content ratings at the time revealed that the show performed quite impressively upon its release. The series earned around 2.6 billion viewing minutes within the first six weeks of its debut.Adapted for television by Oren Uziel, the series takes place in a completely different multiverse. Set during the Great Depression, Cage stars as ‘Spider-Man.’ The show is set in the 1930s, during the Great Depression, where Ben Reilly, a private investigator, has to take on the role of the masked vigilante when something big happens in New York City. The show was released in both color and original black-and-white format.

Alongside Cage, the series included many other talented actors. This included Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson.

While ‘Spider-Noir’ is cancelled, the veteran actor is extremely busy and is slated to appear in multiple films currently in post-production. These include ‘Madden,’ ‘Fortitude,’ ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,’ ‘The Prince,’ ‘Lords of War,’ and ‘Best Pancakes in the County.’ He last appeared on the big screen in ‘The Carpenter’s Son,’ where he played the carpenter and also served as one of the producers.
