Known widely as aparajita or butterfly pea, this climbing vine produces striking, vivid blue-purple flowers shaped almost like a butterfly in flight, and it holds a genuine place in Indian tradition beyond just its looks. Its flowers are commonly used to brew a naturally blue-purple tea and appear in Ayurvedic practice, adding a practical dimension that most purely ornamental plants don’t offer. It grows easily along a fence, trellis, or balcony railing, tolerates heat well, and asks for very little beyond regular watering and a sunny spot to keep producing flowers through most of the growing season.
