We know him by many names like Big B, Star of the Millennium, Shehenshaah, not only for his commendable work in the film industry but also for possessing a once-in-a-million demeanour. He is Amitabh Bachchan. But just like every human being, he has also had his highs and lows throughout his life. He’s survived a near-fatal accident on a film set, with an injury that could have ended his career. But how he rose like a phoenix and came back stronger is what makes him an idol for many.Previously, on his show Kaun Banega Crorepati, season 13, he talked about not having a pulse.Let’s know more about it ahead.

When Amitabh Bachchan joked about not having a pulse on his wrist

Previously, in one of his episodes of Kaun Banega Crorepati, season 13, during the show’s “Shandaar Shukriya” week, KBC had a fun lineup of guests including Maniesh Paul, along with TV actresses Additi Gupta, Disha Parmar, and Chandni Sharma. In the episode, Additi Gupta, who actually plays a doctor on screen, then jokingly asked to check Amitabh Bachchan’s heartbeat, calling him the “heartbeat of the nation.” Big B, being Big B, told her to check his pulse instead. And that’s where things got interesting.

Additi couldn’t find his pulse

She tried checking his wrist but couldn’t feel anything. Thinking she was doing it wrong, she checked Maniesh Paul’s pulse first to make sure her technique was fine, and his came through normally. She went back to Bachchan’s wrist again, and still, nothing. Confused, she asked, “Inki aa rahi hai, aap ki pulse kyun nahi aa rahi hai?” (“His pulse is showing, why isn’t yours?”)Amitabh, with his usual mischief, replied, “Humari jaa rahi hai, isliye nahi aa rahi hai”.

The injury during the shooting of the movie ‘Coolie’ that caused him a fortune

He then explained the real story, going back to his near-fatal accident on the sets of Coolie in 1982. “There is no pulse on my wrist,” he said. “I was injured in 1982 during an action scene of Coolie. I was hospitalised, was declared clinically dead by the doctors, and later revived. During the operation, the doctors made many cuts in my body, including cutting my wrist every half hour to remove internal blood.”Because of those repeated cuts, he said the pulse in that wrist simply stopped working over time. “Now, I only have a pulse on my neck,” he added before throwing in one more joke: “Waha chune nahi dunga mai” (“I won’t let you touch there”).

How to check the pulse?

Checking a pulse is simple: begin by placing your index and middle fingers over one of these points and feel for the rhythmic beat of blood moving through the artery. There are many pulse points in the body, including the neck, behind the knee, the wrist, the folds of the elbow, etc.
